Carrefour ceases sales of pangasius in Spain

01/02/2017 17:52

Carrefour has announced it has ceased selling pangasius in Spanish stores. This decision follows the retailer's move to stop stocking the fish in its Belgian and French stores, made in January 2017.

Italian supermarkets too decided to stop sales of pangasius, due to the claims of high levels of pollution in fish farms. Esselunga have already banned sales and Coop has excluded pangasius from its private label assortment. Carrefour’s Italian unit is expected to join them, after ceasing sales in France and Belgium.

In Romania, Carrefour has developed its own article, in an exclusive packaging. It is a frozen pangasius fish fillet imported from Vietnam. There are similar products on the Romanian market both under private labels and A brands.
